Vehicle Description

For Sale: 1979 Volkswagen Beetle Convertible

A Brief History of the Beetle
The Volkswagen Beetle, originally known as the Type 1 and launched in 1945 as “The People’s Car,” quickly became one of the most iconic vehicles ever produced. Known worldwide by many nicknames — Käfer, Vocho, Coccinelle, Fusca, Maggiolino — the Beetle sold over 21.5 million first-generation units, making it one of the best-selling cars of all time. Praised for its innovative, economical design, the Beetle was compact, practical, and affordable to buy and maintain. Its air-cooled engine was simpler and easier to repair than many contemporaries, especially American cars of the era. Over time, the Beetle became a symbol of freedom and individuality and, in the U.S., a sign of counter-culture, peace, and unity. After a successful 70-year run, Volkswagen retired the Beetle in 2019.
