Power comes from BMW’s innovative 1.5-liter turbocharged inline-3 engine working together with a front-mounted electric motor to create BMW’s advanced eDrive all-wheel-drive system. The i8 features a fully independent suspension, a double-wishbone front suspension setup, and a multi-link rear suspension designed to provide balanced handling and composure. A low-mounted battery pack helps lower the center of gravity, while the overall layout gives the i8 near-mid-engine balance characteristics that contribute to its uniquely planted driving dynamics.
